It was extremely hazardous, for the aeroplanes were unreliable, precise meteorology was in its infancy, radio communication and maps were relatively primitive and new and long routes were being pioneered over dangerous terrain of all kinds - across the Sahara, over the Andes, even just across the Mediterranean.īut in Land of Men, Saint-Exupéry doesn't just relate tales of derring-do in the clouds, the storms, or what it is like to be lost over thousands of featureless miles above sea or sand. These courageous pilots took their lives in their hands each time they set out to deliver the mail. First published in 1939, it documents Saint-Exupéry's life as a pilot in the pioneering days of long-distance flying and in particular his experiences as a pilot transporting mail across countries, across continents. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is known universally for the gentle charm of Le Petit Prince, but it is this book, Land of Men - known originally in English as Wind, Sand and Stars - which is his masterpiece.

She's very different from the queen's we've previously seen. Helayna is such a great addition to this world, and I really hope she becomes a major player down the line. With the threat of Jörmungandr being disturbed and starting Ragnarok, Helayna and her Blood has their work cut out for them. Where the darkness previous seen, wasn't to be feared, this darkness is completely different. These three beings never expected to feel the call of a queen, let alone to get to serve at her side and taste her blood. While this is the same world as the one readers have followed other queen's in, this one has more of a bite to it. When Helayna does just that, she awakens Aima Blood that has been asleep for thousands of year in a place of true darkness. Everything seems lost in the darkness, until a helpful queen whispers to her in a dream and tells her to call her Blood. Without her memories or powers, Helayna is stuck, alone and in a lot of pain. Since I can't exactly give an in-depth review of every single story in Inhuman Acts, allow me to point out some stories that stood out to me - which is going to be difficult in itself. There will be no hand-holding to make you feel better when all is said and done.Īnd you'll have to suffer along with every unfortunate main character and expendable schmuck in all 13 tales of this amazing anthology. It's dirty, gritty, foreboding and filled with misery of people just trying to make it through another day of crappy existence on a rock called Earth. As everybody knows, the Noir genre is not exactly renowned for happiness and romantic smooching. The Foreword written by Ocean Tigrox is a 'in-universe' perspective of traditional hard-boiled PI Stanley Rivets informing readers what they’re in for. Okay, so the subject of this review is a Noir-themed Furry anthology titled "Inhuman Acts" edited by Ocean Tigrox - an excellent Writer/Editor! I have to personally extend a high-five and fist bump towards the editor for the theme behind this anthology and the works of the writers within it! There have been a handful of instances of placing anthropomorphic animals in Noir settings, but I don’t believe that it’s ever been done quite like this nor with so much variety! I’m still not exactly used to purchasing and reading anthologies, and therefore not that adept at figuring out the best way to review them -as they are books filled with so many fantastic stories by many authors and it's just hard figuring out where to begin and what to cover. These pens are each hand-tested (on a little card we include in the package) to avoid sending out any duds (another problem with pens sold in stores). Now, we're not a big company ourselves or anything, but we have been in a position to periodically import large batches of pens that we've sourced ourselves - using the wholesale route to keep costs down, and then to split the savings between getting pens to you for cheaper, and setting some aside to one day produce our own. I remember finding them being sold individually at a Michael's for $4-$5 each. It varies from brand to brand, store to store, and country to country, but good fineliners like the Staedtler Pigment Liner (my personal brand favourite) can cost an arm and a leg. Let's be real here for a second: fineliners can get pricey. Drawabox-Tested Fineliners (Pack of 10, $17.50 USD) An in depth study of such symbolism reveals that the narrator is unconsciously treating the women of his creation as blank screens onto which he is casting various aspects of his personality that he can not consciously acknowledge. It is important to understand the narrator's symbolism of his perception of the female characters. Underlying his problems are sexual fear, association of women with death (a common theme in literature) and disgust affiliated with death/women. The central theme of the story is an attempt toward the resolution of the writer/narrator's dualistic experiences of the real versus unreal, the sensual against the spiritual and death as opposed to life.
